Sos Malnate

SOS Malnate has been an association of volunteers without any lucrative aim for 25 years. In addition to first aid it provides other services to the inhabitants of Malnate and the surrounding area.

The association is divided into 3 sections, all in the same location.

Firstly, the emergency service building, from where the 4 ambulances leave when called out by dialling 118 . It also houses the cars for the secondary services, which are used to carry people to the hospital, dialysis, medical examinations, … At the moment the association have more than four of these cars, but we also use – for people who need it – the ambulances. Moreover in the building there is a didactic room, where first aid courses are given to the volunteers but sometimes also to all the people who want to learn how to save a life. In these years we have developed a service of tele-rescue and tele-assistance for old people.

Secondly, the surgery (Poliambulatorio), where there are doctors and nurses, it is possible to make blood tests and other takings, but also medical examinations in different fields (cardiology, gynaecology, paediatrics, dermatology, orthopaedics, acupuncture, surgery, homeopathy, radiology, etc.). We also provide assistance at home. This service is without lucrative aim, so every visit has a fixed cost. For more information or an appointment: 0332 860067.

Finally, the mutual aid society SMS (Società di Mutuo Soccorso) which, according to the needs of the members, proposes various rates and subscriptions for the contribution to the expenses of our services, but also in case of hospitalisation or various therapies. The subscription covers the members and their families with children up to 25 years of age. Our mutual insurance company is also non-profit. For further information: 0332 426002.

It is important to know that the SOS counts on more than 250 volunteers in various sectors, such as first aid, publicity, operator, etc. But we do not want to stop: we welcome and always train new volunteers no matter their qualifications or other criteria of selection. Our aim is to promote the spirit of solidarity. We also welcome, every year, young people of the civil service , who after a training take charge of the service of secondary transport.

The association works in collaboration with the CESVOV (centre of the voluntary service of the province of Varese), which allows to welcome young people of the voluntary service (SVE) who will take part in the activities of the SOS. The main one is the secondary transport, after attending a training course of first aid (40 hours). The schedule of the volunteers is defined according to what they want to do and what they can do. They have the possibility of working to the free surgery, to the “mutual”, but also to the CESVOV, in the youth information centre, in the centre of activities for the disabled of the town, etc. The typical week is 7 hours a day, Saturdays and Sundays are free, two days a month off are foreseen, and they can be taken together at any moment with the preliminary agreement of the director. To finish, we can house two volunteers at a time: they live alone in a house belonging to the SOS, which is in Malnate, a few minutes from the association, the station, the stores. Read the project
